Yield For A New Fanny Hill, Please

SNOWMASS, COLORADO (Post Time News)–The massive construction and destruction taking place at Base Village in Snowmass since early November of 2005 is not set to be completed until 2011, but has already produced a massive make-over of the small village located on the base of Snowmass mountain.

The “new” base village will include 600 luxury residential units offering various ownership opportunities, hotels, dining, and shopping for visitors. Phase one of the construction will be completed by the 2008 ski season and will encompass a shiny new condominium complex that will include 90 full-ownership condominiums, five new restaurants, one on the top of Sam’s Knob, among other amenities.

“[As far as small business’ are concerned] I believe this will just be a change for our small community,” said Snowmass Village Locksmith’s Bill Bultman. “The same people who always come to Snowmass are still going to come here– it won’t be any better or any worse– just different.”

Other construction on the mall will fabricate 11 new restaurants, retail and rental shops, special events areas, room for access to nearby lodges, public transportation, not to mention a brand new and unrecognizable Fanny Hill.

The town of Snowmass claims that the construction will not at all interfere with guests and visitors to the ski resort nor will it hamper with the more than 3,000 acres of ski terrain. The two new lifts installed on the ski mountain last year have already accomodated and attracted more people to the ski area than in years past, according to Kaplan.

In the early stages of development, many Snowmass Village residents worried that this “vision for the future” would cause problems for commuters driving and car-pooling in and out of the village.

“Some mornings is okay and some mornings its just unbearable,” said Coats Reid & Waldron associate Rebecca Stokes looking out onto the mountain from the Village Market.” I’m happy that there will be a new round-a-bout when this is all said and done, that will definitely help with traffic.”

Stokes commutes to Snowmass from Carbondale and agrees that only slight delays have resulted thus far to accommodate the construction squad’s build-up of new utilities, roads, and bridges.

Snowmass Resident Donna Weidinmyer indicated that the only real dilemma was the number of construction trucks carrying dirt down Brush Creek, and making round-trips carrying metal and steel up and down the roads.

“I’m surprised at how quickly this is all coming together, when I do go [to the Snowmass mall] I never have a problem,” said Weidinmyer. “It just not as bad as some people thought it would be originally and its nothing like trying to get into Aspen.”
