This is your chance to get to the Snowmass Cross-Country Center for an X-C ski or snowshoe by the light of a beautiful Colorado moon.

During her second trip to India for experimental embryonic stem-cell research, Amanda Boxtel sees miracles everywhere she turns. "What is a miracle?" she blogs from Delhi. "Is it something that is scientifically impossible or an act of Divine intervention? I see a miracle as faith realized when I pay reverence for the grace God has given me. Peace enters my soul. At Dr. Geeta Shroff’s hospital, I continue to witness miracles taking place regularly. Mike Chan, an incomplete quadriplegic who was wheelchair bound last summer, returned to India from Hong Kong walking! When I met Mike in July last year, he could barely lift his torso with his arms and hands pressing down on his wheels. These past few weeks, I saw Mike walk without calipers, standing over six feet tall with a grin from ear to ear. Yes, Mike Chan is WALKING."

Post blogger Michael Conniff takes a long, hungry look at great eating in Aspen, Basalt, and Carbondale for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. "Dear Sewards," he blogs. "You know that note I was going to leave behind for your in our kitchen? The one that explains all the place to go to eat in the valley? Well here goes--for all the world to see...."

ASPEN, COLORADO (Post Time News)–Research compiled by the Children’s Health Foundation here show that the state of Colorado, consideredone of the most healthy states in the nation, turn outs out to be no better than all the rest.
When the results from 40 different school districts around the state were gathered, it was found that 14.8 percent of Colorado children ages two-14 years were overweight. Moreover, the results of the study indicate a strong geographical relation to the number of obese children the state. In fact, the survey showed that children living in rural areas such as Aspen and Snowmass are twice as likely to be overweight than those living in metropolitan areas such as Boulder, Adams, Arapahoe, Jefferson , and Denver. Obese children in these areas had only reached 11.3 percent of the child popuation as compared to 15.3 percent in rural areas of Colorado.

I’m hesitant to share because my mind has a hard time wrapping around the fact that on Monday, July 2nd I had a very slight side-to-side wiggle of my third toe on the left foot. This is new and something I haven’t observed in the past 15 ½ years since becoming paralyzed. My mind wants to BELIEVE yet part of me wonders if it is muscle spasm related. My toes on the left foot have always spasmed at certain times (along with my whole leg) but in an up-and-down movement, and not sideways. Dr. Geeta Shroff, Dr. Ashish, Chavi (my PT), and Mum all witnessed this movement repeatedly and on command. Although the response was a little delayed, when I thought about it, the toe moved.

I have grown to love the hospital because of the people in it—they are soooooo incredibly positive and there is an air of optimism I feel as soon as I roll up the steep ramp into the waiting area. I had my seventh stem cell injection today. I will continue through Saturday with Sunday off. On Mondays and Tuesdays I will have an intravenous injection of many stem cells mixed with a bag of saline. On August 6th I will have my first spinal tap surgically on the operating room and I will stay overnight in the hospital. Each day I do rigorous physical therapy with a petite PT named Chavi. She is gorgeous and very positive and she’s not afraid to crack the whip. I’m working on balancing and strengthening exercises. She is impressed with how “in-shape I am” (dig at Jim Finch) and how healthy my body is. CP, I attribute much of that to you my angel friend.
I fully respect Dr. Shroff and what she is doing. She IS getting results from every patient and I believe I will be next. I met Mr. Singh yesterday who was paralyzed 18 years ago (a complete T-10 SCI) and he now has bladder/bowel function, he has increased sensation, he can move his toes/feet/muscles in his legs and practices walking with calipers. He gives me courage and inspiration.

SNOWMASS, COLORADO (Post Time News)–Similar to the dirt roads that once ran throughout much of Western Colorado, spectators and patrons of the annual Snowmass Rodeo will have to travel a rough road covered in construction, orange cones, and gravel paths to reach the rodeo grounds where they will be transported into a different time when cattle, horses and cowboys ruled the land.

SNOWMASS VILLAGE, COLORADO (Post Time News)–New acts and $200,000 worth of improvements in the Fanny Hill venue are the Town of Snowmass Village’s recipe for record crowds in summer 2007–or so they hope.
“We’re dedicated to providing high-quality and affordable concerts in Snowmass Village , and this year we went all out,” says Snowmass Village director of marketing and special events Susan Hamley. “We’ve got over 21 major acts heading to Snowmass this summer, all of which are free except Chili Pepper & Brew Fest where tickets cost as little as $15. It’s really an outstanding summer schedule and my hat is off to our producers who programmed the music for this year’s line up.”

SNOWMASS VILLAGE, COLORADO (Post Time News)–Is it possible to water down the uproar over the banishment of civilian booze at a summer concert series with still more alcohol?
The Town of Snowmass Village has taken it on the chin ever since the announcement that carry-on alchohol was no longer welcome at the summer Fanny Hill concert, in part because of state regulations. In answer to to those critics, Snowmass will give the proceeds from the alcohol sold at the concerts to local nonprofits.
