When I moved to Aspen in December of 1995 with a few college friends we all took jobs in Snowmass, bussing to work each day to be close to the mountain we enjoyed most. At the time, Aspen Mountain did not allow snowboarders. Not that it would have mattered if they did, as there is no comparison between Aspen and Snowmass when it comes to snowboarding.
But it was more than the terrain that attracted us to Snowmass. In the mid-90’s, Snowmass still had the feel of a good old fashioned ski mountain. The town was small and oddly spread throughout the town’s borders with hidden grocers, ski shops and restaurants. The Village Mall was always packed with people with the party epicenter being The Timbermill.
